How it works
Under the water sit pumps, fast valves and nozzles, each made for a different shape: straight jets, swirls, fans, shooters and mist. Show software opens and closes the valves and changes pump speeds in time with the soundtrack, so the water rises, pulses and falls with the music.
Underwater lights colour the water, and many fountains add a water screen, lasers or flame effects on the same timeline. Permanent fountains run from a control room and can play a programmed list of shows every night.
Good to know
- The size of the pool or lake sets the limits for jet height, number of nozzles and pump power.
- Wind carries spray, so seating, walkways and electrics are planned around the main wind direction.
- Water quality, filtration and regular maintenance keep nozzles clear and lights bright.
- Temporary floating fountains exist for events. Permanent ones are designed with the landscape and architecture from the start.
